The 2nd Annual CAHA Housekeeping Olympics drew an enthusiastic group of housekeepers and managers from member hotels, all who competed in individual skill events and worked as teams in other competitive events. Seven hotels and the Charlotte Convention Center participated in this year’s Olympics which are designed to be more fun than competitive.
The Olympics began with a spirit competition where each housekeeping team took the stage to show-off their dancing skills. “I was extremely impressed with the enthusiasm each hotel and the Convention Center brought to this event,” said Vince Chelena, CAHA executive director. “We came to have a good time but competitive instincts always seem to kick-in. These teams came to win!”
Employees representing their hotels in individual events such as a mop race, vacuum cleaning competition, bed making competition and a buffer pad toss were cheered on by their fellow associates. DJ Mike City from Split Second Sound kept everything lively as each event got underway. Shirley Carter, Charlotte Area Transportation System, Nakesha Dawson, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, and Alex Cusimano with Hospitality House served as judges.
Congratulations to the Sheraton Airport Hotel for winning the overall competition. They can proudly display the coveted Golden Toilet Brush trophy in their quarters for one year until next year’s competition. The Ritz-Carlton Charlotte team finished second and the Hilton Center City, third. Newcomers, Kimpton Tryon Park, were winners of the Spirit Competition donning a blow-up unicorn suit and coordinated dance, including toilet seats, to the YMCA.
