Northwood Hospitality is putting the finishing touches from a six-month renovation project on a luxury Ballantyne hotel.
The Marriott-branded hotel — The Ballantyne, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Charlotte — was part of Northwood Investors' $1 billion-plus, 41-piece acquisition encompassing most of Ballantyne Corporate Park. When the record-setting real estate sale closed back in March 2017, CBJ reported that the upscale Ballantyne hotel traded for $60 million. In addition to traditional rooms and suites, the hotel includes separate accommodations in its Lodge and Cottage facilities, as well as a spa, golf course and tennis courts, restaurant and meeting and event space.
The bulk of the renovation work at The Ballantyne has been completed, but the entire project should be finished by the end of September, according to information provided to CBJ on behalf of the hotel's general manager, Raj Radke. Northwood said the renovations represented a "multimillion-dollar" investment but would not disclose further details about the project's cost.
Renovations included in the project span 243 guest rooms and suites in the main hotel as well as 35 rooms and event space at The Lodge, 20,000 square feet of additional meeting space, the spa and communal areas, such as the lobby and great room. The hotel's Gallery Restaurant was the only part of the property not included in the revamp.
The renovation added new furniture, decor, fixtures and flooring in rooms and meeting spaces. New wallpaper and decor will be added in the accompanying bathrooms. Select antiques and artwork from the original design were also kept at the hotel.
The hotel has been open since 2001.
In addition to The Ballantyne, Northwood also completed renovations earlier this year at the Staybridge Suites Charlotte Ballantyne hotel. Each of the hotel's 118 guest rooms in addition to public spaces received a facelift. The real estate investment firm declined to disclose costs associated with that project.
